Looking for a career in Orlando, FL area.

Veteran

Richard Irvine II Mount Dora, FL

I've been out of the Navy since January and still seeking employment. I've been trying to get my foot in the door with an entry level position in either insurance claims, instructional design, or business analyst. However, I am open to other opportunities. Any help would greatly appreciated.

Tom,
I would definitely say I am most passionate about Instructional Design because it has a little bit of everything I find exciting from a profession. For example, researching and analyzing adult learning while collaborating with others to create training on a professional level. I took on many opportunities in the Navy to train in various ways and help with coming up with better e-Learning ideas. In addition, my degree gave me the opportunity to do quite a bit of research in different cultures and was able to teach in China for a semester.

Richard,
Which of the 3 are you most passionate about?
Insurance claims, Business analyst, Instructional designer?
If each paid the same salary for the next 10 years, which would you select?

Hi Tom,
Thank you for replying to my post. In regards to your questions; what interest me about insurance claims is the research involved, helping people and in a way educating them, and the growth possibilities for advancing. Business analyst also involves researching as well as analyzing information, with the information gained the position allows others to be educated to better the business. Instructional designer really interest me because it is collaborating with others, along with researching/analyzing, to come up with training to enhance the skills of employees to keep up with the constant change in corporations. To sum it up, I love educating on a professional level from researching/analyzing I have done. As far as career networking goes I have been making contacts through ACP and other websites, as well as family and friends. In addition, I have reached out to some headhunters. I hadn't heard of VCTP before but did just take a look at the website. It seems like a great resource to explore further.
I am up for any advice or direction in my job search. Thank you for reaching out and discussing with me. Its definitely nice receiving help.

Richard,
I received your message. Please also paste your reply here so others can assist.

Richard,
Once you identify a job-listing in which you are interested, conduct a "skills gap analysis". For each qualification preference or requirement, list if an dhow you qualify. This will help you better understand where you are meeting a job's requirements, and also where you may need to develop a plan to further improve your skills.
