There is helpful book on resume writing for government jobs entitled "Military to Federal Career Guide, 2nd Edition" by Kathryn Troutman. Resumes for government positions have different format and detail than civilian resumes.

The USDA website has a specific career at http://www.usda.gov/wps/portal/usda/content?navid=CAREERS.

You might want to consider opportunities with the FDA. Recently an Army veterinarian protege (ACP) obtained a position with the FDA.

Start with usajob.gov, you can actually search by the agency you wish to work for. It's important to include all preferences.

Try https://usajobs.gov. A cursory search for 'veterinarian' yielded 19 openings, several Health and Human Service department, a few USDA, some Department of the Interior. Good luck and thank you for your service.
