With over 23 years in sales and marketing – the past 9 in managed care -- George Sosa Jr. brings a unique perspective to the challenges and opportunities in the healthcare industry today. Recently, within 10 months of employment at WellCare, he was promoted to Regional Community Relations Manager for the NY East Region of WellCare Health Plans, Inc. When hired two years ago, he was hired as the Community Relations Manager for WellCare Health Plans, Inc. in the state of New Jersey. WellCare provides cost-effective managed services exclusively for government sponsored healthcare programs such as Medicaid and Medicare throughout the United States and currently serves over 2.2 million members nationwide.
In the NY East Region of WellCare, he is responsible for identifying, targeting, and building relationships with multiple community leaders that will assist him and his team in sending the WellCare message throughout the counties that the company is currently licensed in throughout the states of NY, NJ, Connecticut and Ohio for their Medicare Advantage health plans.
Previously, George was the Business Development Manager for Health Plus, one of New York City’s largest HMOs, where he was responsible for identifying, targeting, and building relationships with multiple decision-makers in the business community in order to market an Employee Health Benefit Program to uninsured employees of small to large corporations, chambers of commerce and members of unions through group educational enrollment seminars at the worksite for potential eligible uninsured adults and children.

Prior to this position, George was Regional Marketing Manager for the Borough of the Bronx for the managed care organization, where he increased enrollment in the company’s three products by 250%, and grew the borough’s staff by 125%.

Responsible for developing general networking and lead generation through company expos, networking events, street/health fairs, and trade shows to reach and promote public awareness of the Medicaid Managed Care, Child Health and Family Health Plus Programs that Health Plus offers, George also established networking and referral relationships through “gatekeepers” in order to increase market share and company revenue.

In addition, George was responsible for recruiting, hiring, training, assigning, directing, motivating, and evaluating a growing staff of 9 business representatives.

Prior to coming to Health Plus, George was with Amerigroup Corporation, based in Edison, New Jersey, from 2000 through June 2005, where he was responsible for sales & marketing of the SCHIP program (NJ FamilyCare), a Federal and State managed care healthcare program according to Medicaid Managed Care marketing policies and regulations through a wide variety of health insurance brokers, chamber of commerce organizations, large corporations and unions.

As a Retention Representative there, he was responsible for assisting the team in maintaining the voluntary and involuntary disenrollment goal rates for the membership of the SCHIP program (NJ FamilyCare Program) in NJ.

He also previously worked at US Healthcare, in East Rutherford, New Jersey, as a Senior Marketing Representative, where he solicited and acquired managed care accounts with large corporate institutions; prepared and presented bilingual group presentations to potential members; facilitated and educated potential enrollees to U.S. Healthcare Program; and organized and participated in community outreach events such as health fairs and managed care education seminars.

George has a B. A. from Rutgers University, with a major in Latin American Studies, and has completed numerous continuing education course and seminars in sales, marketing; Fluent in Spanish, George is the recipient of many corporate sales awards, including Representative of the Month (5 times) and Top Sales Award Winners’ Circle for Amerigroup.
