About Bob

Mr. Robert (Bob) P. Hanrahan graduated from New York Institute of Technology, in January 1970, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Technology and in 1988 he received a Master of Science in Computer Science from Utah State University, Logan Utah.

After undergraduate education Bob entered Air Force active duty where he performed as a Weapon Systems Officer in F-4 Phantom fighter aircraft and is an aerial combat veteran of Southeast Asia. He left the Air Force in mid 1974 at which time he entered Civil Service as a computer programmer at HQ USAFE, Ramstein AB, Germany. He has held a variety of positions during his forty one year career to include development of Command and Control systems for the U.S. Air Force and NATO, Requirements Analysis for Command, Control, Communications and Intelligence systems, Capacity Management, Computer-aided Software Engineering (CASE) technology assessment and development of Management Information Systems (MIS). In early 1985 he was assigned to the Ada Test-bed function at Air Force Space Command (HQ AFSPC/LK) where he participated in the development of Air Defense and Missile Warning systems prototypes using the Ada programming language system. In 1986 he was assigned to the Communications-Computer Systems directorate at Hill AFB where he served as the Chief of an Information Systems Development section and evaluator of CASE tools under the Air Force Logistics Command Programmer Productivity Improvement Program. He joined the Air Force’s Software Technology Support Center (STSC) in mid 1989 and was the chief investigator and evaluator of Process Technologies, Software Engineering Environments (SEEs), Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies, CASE technology, software engineering tools, and software life-cycle paradigms. He was trained by the Air Force to be a consultant, a change agent and taught workshops throughout the Air Force on how to set up process action teams and capture processes. Additionally, Mr. Hanrahan was a reviewer for the STSC CrossTalk Editorial Board.

In 1997 he joined Iomega Corporation as a Senior Staff Software Engineer where he built the Software Engineering Department’s ISO 9000 Quality Management System, was trained in Six Sigma (Green Belt) and the Software Engineering Institute’s Personal Software Process. Between 2003 and 2009 he worked as a Software Program Manager with MTC Technologies Corporation (MTC) and as a Senior Program Manager with KIHOMAC Inc., both local defense contractors. From 2012 until 2014 he was employed by GMRE Inc. and served as a Sr. Software Engineer supporting the A-10 Thunderbolt II Suite 8 software upgrade programs. From 2014 to 2015 he was back with KIHOMAC developing F-16 Mission Planning models and accomplished Mission Planning Software updates as a lead Sr. Software Engineer.

From November 2009 to the present, Mr. Hanrahan has been active in volunteer activities for the Military Officers Association of America. He is his chapter’s representative for The Officer Placement Service (TOPS) Program, which assists separating and retiring officers in transitioning from the military to the civilian world with a focus on job search and business startup guidance. Bob is also an active volunteer member of the State of Utah’s Entrepreneur Launch Pad (ELP), a not for profit group providing free guidance to emerging and successful entrepreneurs and business owners. His value-added to the ELP is his knowledge of how to do business with the government, how to write Government RFPs, write responses to Government RFIs and RFPs and how to accomplish source selections.

Mr. Hanrahan is a recent graduate of the State of Utah’s Entrepreneur Program (Northfront Pro Courses). He has held ASQ Certified Software Quality Engineer (CSQE) and RAB ISO 9000:2000 Auditor (#Q07869) credentials. Additionally, Mr. Hanrahan has been awarded Certified Computing Professional (CCP), Certified Systems Professional (CSP) and Certificate in Data Processing (CDP) designations by the nationally recognized Institute for the Certification of Computer Professionals (ICCP). He is currently an adjunct lecturer in the Computer Science and Computer Information Systems programs of Park University, sponsored by the Odgen Air Logistics Center Base Education Office. He is a graduate of the Air Force's Air Command and Staff College and holds a Masters Degree in Computer Science from Utah State University. His CASE Technology Thesis Report provided a foundation for his work assessing software engineering environments, Computer Aided Software Engineering (CASE) technology, software tools, and software life-cycle methodologies, methods and paradigms. He was a principal developer and implementer of the Air Force’s Software Tool Evaluation Methodology (STEM). For a short time he was the OO-ALC’s primary point of contact for Artificial Intelligence technologies. He is author of the article “The IDEF Process Modeling Methodology,” Hanrahan, Robert P, CrossTalk, The Journal of Defense Software Engineering, June 1995. Also, he is co-author of the paper "Evaluating Tools and Environments Concept", Berk, Kevin J., Hanrahan, Robert P., Proceedings of the IEEE 1990 National Aerospace and Electronics Conference, NAECON 1990, Vol. II, pp. 658-663 (May 1990). Mr. Hanrahan has also co-authored several Air Force STSC Technology Reports on Software Engineering Environment and Requirements Analysis and Design technologies, and has authored several other STSC CrossTalk articles dealing with Software Engineering Environments and CASE tools and process technologies.
