About Michael
I recently retired from the United States Navy after 20 years in June. During my time in the Navy, I worked in a variety of roles in the IT field. I worked in IT customer/ desktop support and system administration. Over the course of my career, my duties and job description changed often and there were times that my job did not even entail IT work. I feel like the unusual IT career path in the United States Navy has made it slightly more difficult to transition into an IT role outside of the military now. I want to use this difficulty as an opportunity to explore a career in marketing or other areas of interest now. I spent 11 years living overseas during my time in the US Navy. I am a high-basic to lower-intermediate speaker of the Japanese language. I passed the 4th level of the Japanese Language Proficiency test in 2009. I earned a certificate of Japanese Studies from the University of Maryland University College in 2014. I am 6 classes away from finishing my BS in Cybersecurity Management with a minor in East Asian Studies now. I will likely change my focus to a BA in East Asian Studies in the near future. I am passionate about potentially finding employment in Asia. I have visited more than 20 countries while living abroad for 11 years during my time on Active Duty. My time abroad in Asia has opened my eyes to the incredible diversity in the region and I want to be a part of it now.
