About Charles

I work in irrigation - the engineering/agronomic/environmental aspects of water as it relates to agriculture. That covers the topics of crop water use, salinity, farm irrigation systems, canals, pipelines, and automation of large water delivery systems and pumps. It's a fascinating career.

I served 2 years in Vietnam (1968-70) with the 4th Infantry Division. One year was as a combat demo specialist. Then 9 months as a team chief with a Civil Affairs team living in a hilltribe village, and then 3 months on short range patrols (2-4 days).

I have degrees in Soil Science (agronomy), Irrigation and Drainage Engineering, and a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering. I've worked in over 25 countries, but primarily work in the western US irrigation projects. I recently retired from 30+ years as a professor of BioResource and Agricultural Engr. at Cal Poly State University, San Luis Obispo, CA.
