About Randy

Randy L. Long enlisted in the U.S. Navy in November of 1983 opting for accelerated training in the Aviation Electronics (Avionics) field, after which Randy was assigned to the U.S. Navy’s Advanced Electrical-Electronic Measurements (PMEL) and Microwave Measurement calibration schools in Denver, Colorado in December of 1985. Upon graduating at the top of his class, he immediately started his calibration career in a one man laboratory in Christchurch, New Zealand where he learned “the hard way” by breaking out the books. This lab earned 3 consecutive “Outstanding Activity” awards while he was stationed there.
Randy’s second duty assignment was as the number 2 man in a 3 man laboratory on the new USS Wasp (LHD-1). This was his first experience with bringing a lab on-line and into operation.
Randy joined Richard J. Bagan, Inc. in 1992 where, after a short time in the electronics repair shop, he joined the small 1 man calibration lab and pioneered the field service calibration program.
Randy joined ITT Aerospace/Communication Division in 1997 as a Senior Calibration technician in a large laboratory working primarily in RF electronics calibration.
Randy returned to Richard J. Bagan, Inc. as a Senior Calibration technician and was instrumental in achieving ISO/IEC 17025 Accreditation by writing a large portion the ISO9000 and 17025 (Guide25) Quality Systems, and the vast majority of the Calibration Procedures and Measurement Uncertainties until his departure in 2007 as Laboratory Manager.
Randy served additional year of military service with the Indiana Army National Guard as a communications specialist.
Randy joined Zimmer in Warsaw Indiana in July of 2007 where he worked in the Metrology department calibrating primarily dimensional tools and fixtures and performing layouts on fixtures and products.
Randy currently works at Laboratory Accreditation Bureau as a Calibration Program Manager where his duties consist of laboratory assessment, assessment package review, accreditation balloting, and participating in the Technical Advisory Group (TAG).
