About Karl
Karl has 17 years experience at Deloitte in audit, compliance, and risk management roles. He is currently a leader within the 35-person internal audit department. Karl's team works closely with management and second lines of defense (e.g. General Counsel, Risk and Regulatory Affairs) to provide insight to leadership and the Board of Directors on matters of risk, strategy, and operations.
Formerly, he led the independence audit team for 10 years with operations in the US and India. The 50-member team conducted audits of firm professionals to ensure they maintained the highest standards of independence with respect to Deloitte clients. In addition, Karl oversaw a 200-person team in India responsible for supporting US Independence, Compliance and Risk functions.
Prior to returning to Deloitte in 2006, he served 12 years as a senior financial officer, including 10 years as a Financial and Operations Principal (FINRA Series 27 FINOP) for securities broker dealers. Karl has extensive experience leading teams through rapid growth and process improvement, while navigating complex regulatory environments.
In his financial leadership roles, Karl helped launch three successful startup entities, including Prescient Markets, the developer of cpmarket.com, an internet-based trading platform for commercial paper; Abbey National Securities, the US broker dealer subsidiary of Abbey National Bank (UK); and Verified Identity Pass, the company that introduced CLEAR, a registered traveler program providing a “fast pass” through airport security.
Karl started his career at Deloitte Haskins & Sells in 1988 as an auditor in Stamford, CT where he served six years in the financial services industry until accepting the role of Chief Financial Officer at Credit Research & Trading LLC, a securities boutique and Deloitte client.
Karl holds an MBA in Corporate Finance from Pace University of New York and a BS Accounting from The King’s College of New York. He is a Certified Public Accountant and Chartered Global Management Accountant.
No stranger to taking decisive action in high stress environments, Karl has been serving in his community as a volunteer emergency medical technician for nearly 30 years. He has a passion for the 1st responder community and a deep respect for the military. Karl lives with his wife and three children in Milford, Connecticut and spent time as an expat kid in Hong Kong and Kuwait during his teen years.
