About Victor

Victor Corral is currently an MBA in Design Strategy student at the California College of the Arts (class of 2017).

Before returning to school in August 2015, Victor was the Director of Programs for the Mission Promise Neighborhood, a five-year, $30 million dollar Department of Education funded initiative to create a community of opportunity in San Francisco’s Mission District led by the Mission Economic Development Agency (MEDA). Victor led the community planning process that ultimately resulted in the grant award in 2012 and then served as Acting Director of the initiative from January of 2013 to September of 2014.

Prior to his work at MEDA, Victor was the Program Manager for the Closing the Racial Wealth Gap Initiative, a national effort to close the racial wealth gap in a generation at the Insight Center for Community Economic Development. At the Insight Center, Victor helped lead a national network of experts of color on asset building to develop and advocate for racially equitable public policies. Victor cut his social justice teeth as a researcher and writer at Race Forward, The Center for Racial Justice Innovation (formerly the Applied Research Center), a racial justice think tank where he co-authored research reports on race and the economy and wrote for Colorlines Magazine. Victor graduated from UC Berkeley where he conducted research at the Center for Latino Policy Research (CLPR).

Victor has received numerous fellowships and participated in several leadership development programs. He was a part of the 2014-2015 Annie E. Casey Foundation Skills to Accelerate Results program class, a 2012 New Leaders Council fellow, and a 2012 National Association for Latino Community Asset Builders fellow. As an undergraduate, he received the CLPR’s Public Policy Fellowship in 2007.

Victor is currently a volunteer writing coach for a High School student at Mission Graduates, a San Francisco education nonprofit. In the past, Victor served on the Board of Directors of MEDA, worked with the tech start-up Sumazi, and wrote articles for The Cultural Connect online magazine.

Victor is a native of Mexico, a husband, father, open water swimmer, and a proud veteran of the US Navy.
