Dear Sir/Ma’am:
The reason I am writing to you is that I believe I am the best candidate for the open position your firm is advertising. There is no one that I know of who has had the type of employment career that I have experienced. I have made it my life to earn a living by working all over the world and that is no exaggeration. I’ve taught English to Japanese students in Japan for 2 years. I was in the United States Navy for 11 years and deployed twice to Europe during my lifetime. I’m proud to say that I have served my country twice as I transitioned from service in the Navy to federal civil service as a Merchant Marine. I have sailed to various ports all over the world. I have had a long and successful career working for the American government safeguarding the security American citizens and other foreigners both here in the United States and abroad. I was trained and learned valuable, employable skills both as a Naval Sailor and Federal Civil Service Merchant Marine. I was promoted through the ranks during my 11 year career in the Navy and successfully transitioned to Federal Civil Service Merchant Marine after my career in the military came to an end due to downsizing of our military forces during the 1990’s. I am attaching a copy of my resume to provide a brief highlight of the skills and experience I can bring to your frim from my career as a Naval Sailor and as a Merchant Marine. I possess a plethora of skills and experience unmatched by any other candidate competing for this position. My naval career was spent in the field of supply and logistics. From that career, I became skilled at the art of logistics management, supply chain management, distribution and warehouse management, transportation management, stock and inventory control, purchasing and procurement, requisitioning and ordering, budgeting and accounting, resource allocation and appropriation, equipment configuration and supply financial management. From basic stock ordering to the complex task of equipment configuration management to the even more difficult task of managing the shipping, receiving, and distribution warehouse of the world’s largest submarine base, I have excelled at all phases of logistics management. I am now a properly-credentialed Merchant Marine working on ships operated by the U.S. Navy. However, these ships are operated by civilians and not by U.S. military personnel. I have performed a number of tasks as a Merchant Marine which are extremely similar to those tasks I performed as a Naval Sailor. I possess a college degree in Political Science and have an extensive educational and work experience in the field of government. Besides my merchant marine credential, I also possess a Transportation Worker Identification Credential and a Class A Commercial Driver’s License. I look forward to discussing this job opportunity with you in the near future.
Sincerely,
Ken Hjerpe
