A Real Estate Career

Career Exploration

A career in real estate can be very rewarding. These rewards are found in the financial rewards, but also in the reward of making a difference in peoples lives.

First and foremost, a career in real estate is simple, but not easy. 87% of all newly licensed agents will be out of the business within two years. The top 10% of agents nationwide sell 90% of all the houses sold by real estate agents. But if you are disciplined and dedicated with a strong work ethic then this career path can reward you to limits beyond your wildest dreams.

Most everything that makes up a successful real estate agent can be taught. But keep in mind the most important qualities that make up a successful real estate agent are not attributes that can be taught. The best questions to ask yourself before deciding a career in real estate is right for you are:

  • Are you disciplined? Discipline is important because this is not like most jobs where you are required to show up 9 to 5. The discipline is important because you need to ensure that you show up from 8 to 6 everyday. You are also setting your own targets and goals, so you must be disciplined in accomplishing these daily objectives. If not, failure will be sure to find you.

  • Are you capable of withstanding some emotional bruises? If you are a member of our armed forces then this answer is most likely YES! But bruises to your body can sometimes be easier to come back from the ones that affect the mind. This is a tiresome business of people yelling at you, having little respect for you and constantly being told no.

  • Are you willing to continue to sharpen your skills? The industry is constantly changing. Whether that be economic cycles or new interruptions from technology or companies. While the game doesn’t really change, the players must continue to elevate their ability to better serve the client and their needs.

Why is this industry so fascinating and financially rewarding? Real Estate is one of those things that people will always need. Housing is a commodity that while not quite as important as water is pretty far up on the ‘need’ scale. While there are economic cycles, sales still must go on. People continue to get married, divorced, have kids and eventually pass away.

It would be my pleasure to answer any and all questions whether you are thinking about a real estate career in Boston, Delaware, Iowa or California.
