Successsful Interviewing (Accentuate the Positive!)

Interviews

Veterans have a real advantage when they interview for a job. Be sure to discuss your military training and experience every time you go for a job opportunity. As a veteran, you have a tremendous advantage over non vets. Your understanding of personal discipline and integrity can really help with a new potential employer.

Be brutally honest about your experiences and whatever lapses may exist in your resume. If you have had trouble transitioning, talk about it.. It's not something to be ashamed of. Your service to the country did not come without personal cost. Wear that as a badge of honor.

Potential employers want to hire people who are trainable; and being a veteran is certainly proof you can be trained. Veterans also understand that not everything comes easily. It takes effort to get results. Potential employers know that and will appreciate examples of how you overcame adversity in your military experience.

Be positive about your abilities and honest about whatever you perceive as your weaknesses. Importantly, be enthusiastic about your transition back into civilian society and be optimistic about your future.

Most of all, understand that your military service makes you special compared to people who chose not to serve
