If you've experienced difficulty trying to convince civilian job hiring managers that your military training and experience would make you a valuable employee -- you won't have the same difficulty with franchise companies:

Franchises Want Former and Retired Military!

As a retired USAF officer who has been in franchising for the past 18 years and a franchise consultant for the past 4 years, I can confidently tell you that you are in demand by virtually every franchise opportunity.

Why?

The simple answer is people with military experience have historically proven to be better franchise owners.

Franchising is all about following proven procedures, policies and methodologies taught to new franchise owners by the staff at the franchise company. Military people have already demonstrated the ability to learn new skills and to perform in compliance with technical manuals and regulations. For people who have never been in the military, attending a franchise company's training and learning to follow procedures is most likely a new experience for them ... and some of them simply don't "get it" and prove to be poorly performing, "problem" franchise owners.

Military people, on the other hand, have all attended training courses, have read and thoroughly learned procedures and techniques from manuals and regulations and have demonstrated successfully implementing what they have been trained to do "on their own" without direct supervision.

Given the above, you can see why franchise companies feel, and correctly so, that former military are "better bets" as new franchise owners. That's one of the reasons lots of franchise companies offer significant discounts to former military!

But there's more ...

Not many people outside of franchising understand that all franchises are TEAMS.

Every franchise owner in each franchise company directly contributes to the reputation and the success of the entire franchise company. Each owner must follow the same rules and procedures to support and protect the brand. Therefore, every franchise owner depends on every other franchise owner to operate their businesses in the same way as they have all been taught. The old saying, "One bad apple spoils the whole barrel," certainly applies here.

In addition, as good teammates, franchise owners help each other. In fact, the motto of franchising is, "Be in Business for Yourself, but Not By Yourself." And the "not by yourself" part of that motto doesn't mean that ONLY the franchise company is there to train and support you, but your fellow franchise owners are also part of your on-going support structure.

Military people know how to perform as teams; how to watch out for and encourage each other; how to mentor newer team members and how to hold each other accountable.

Franchising could be the answer for you -- but how do you find the right franchise options?

Which franchises are the best fits for your skills and experience? Which can you afford? Which will return the income you need/want/hope to earn? Which will work in your market? Which will give you the lifestyle as a business owner you prefer?

To answer all of the questions above, you should reach out to an experienced and ethical franchise consultant. Many franchise consulting organizations are available to help you, but be sure to ask hard questions before you engage with a consultant.

Not all franchise consultants have had any franchising experience at all before they paid a fee to join a franchise consulting organization. It just makes sense that a franchise consultant should have years of franchising experience BEFORE becoming a franchise consultant.

More, I recommend you also look for experienced franchise consultants who have military experience -- after all, who would know you better than a fellow GI?

The franchise companies pay the franchise consultants' fees, so you pay your consultant nothing -- and, you can't pay more for a franchise because you have the benefit of a franchise consultant. Same price either way.
