PMP Certifications for Veterans

Veteran

Jessica Dalton Hill Afb, UT

I am separating in May but also going into the Air Force Reserves. I am also trying to obtain my PMP or PMI licenses for my civilian career. Does anyone know the best certifying company/resource to use for this? Can I use my GI Bill?

Hi Jessica,

Have you looked into IVMF's Onward to Opportunity? No need to use your GI Bill for their services as they are grant funded. You can find the PMP pathway here https://ivmf.syracuse.edu/programs/career-training/learning-pathways/

This is the application and reviews eligibility. Good luck! https://ivmf.syracuse.edu/programs/career-training/o2o-admission/onward-to-opportunity-application/

Hi Jessica,
ACT Now Education has a program that will help you obtain your PMP for free. You must attend an orientation to be eligible. They will also connect you with other Veterans who are transitioning, too, who can help you through the process.

Hello Jessica,

There are plenty of free resources to help you get your PMP or PMI certification so you do not have to use your GI Bill. I would first reach out and research Syracuse University Onward to Opportunity program & also reach out to the VetSec organization. I have provided links below and if you need further resources or suggestions please feel free to reach out to me.

Others have given good resources, beyond those.

An additional suggestion for better readiness, beyond the certification, plan and be ready for which positions and sectors you will be targeting, it might lead to other additional skills requirements such as Scrum Master.
To find positions and backgrounds, one approach, on linkedin search for titles and company names in your vicinity, then see the path these folks in your target role took.

Feel free to DM me if any questions or want to run ideas, we can do a 20-30 minute zoom.

Hi Jessica,

Thank you for asking a great question! According to military.com, the VA may cover a portion of the cost with GI Bill benefits, https://www.military.com/education/gi-bill/online-certificate-programs-offer-option-for-military-students.html. This may be useful for comparing benefits and seeing what the GI Bill will cover, https://www.va.gov/education/about-gi-bill-benefits/.

Best,
