How do I find technical postions requiring international travel?

Veteran

Emily Darling Virginia Beach, VA

Hello all!

I transition out of the Navy in January, so I am deep in the job hunt. I know there are global energy or water treatment companies that require technical experts to travel to their international sites as apart of the job description. This would be my dream! Unfortunately, between my own research and military recruiting agencies I am working with, I've only been able to find one. Any tips? Thank you all!

Another possible career direction to consider is as a "product developer".
The term has a slightly different meaning in software development, but with things like outdoor gear/equipment, clothing/apparel, consumer electronics, it involves working closely with factories which are often international. Just searching for the term in job sites (like Indeed) will bring up some examples.

I’d suggest that you network at the target company or industry. Use LinkedIn to find people already working there and reach out to them. Ask them the process they used to get hired and ask them to help you navigate the hiring process and if they are willing, ask them to submit you as a referral. These activities require much more time on your part but in my opinion would greatly increase your chances for success. Good luck!
