Good afternoon!
My name is Mike Devore and I am a Navy Veteran and Screenwriter based out of Seattle, WA.
I am currently finishing up a writing fellowship through the Netflix Animation Foundations Program and was a mentee in the 2021-22 WGF Veterans Writing Project.
I have a half-hour dramedy script that is currently a Quarter Finalist for the PAGE International Awards as well as a finalist for the 2022 Bigfoot Script Challenge. The Script also sits in the top 5% on Coverfly.
I feel that I'm ready for the next stage of my career and was hoping that someone had any thoughts/recommendations for someone trying to break in.
Any information would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance!
Sincerely,
Mike

Hi Mike!
Congratulations on your current fellowship!
To sell your screenplays and possibly gain representation, check out:

Screenwriters have challenging careers because if they don’t sell their screenplays, their important stories don’t get told.
I always urge screenwriters to also become producers and even multi-hyphenate filmmakers (write, produce, direct, shoot, edit, distribute).
That way, they can actualize their own projects.
And no one can tell them “no.”
By becoming a producer and a multi-hyphenate filmmaker even if that is not your ultimate goal, you can become a stronger screenwriter.
In addition to a formal filmmaking program or self-study, the best way to learn filmmaking is to make films.
Start by writing, producing, directing, shooting, editing, and distributing your own independent, low budget short film.
Your experience will be invaluable to developing your craft and advancing your career.
Good luck in your career!
Best regards,
Ming Lai
