Good day; I'm seeking a mentor in the IT profession--specifically for SysAdmin or IT help desk Tech. I have been accepted for an IT skillbridge program in March. I'm also starting a Security A+ certification program in March through Syracuse University (Onward to Opportunities). I have a TS/SCI and just finished a Master's degree in Human Resource Mgmt; I have the customer service skills in HR and 14 yrs of experience in HR. Although I'm switching to an entry-level role, I'm willing to do the work to get the experience and certifications in IT. I worked 7 years as an Armament Aircraft Tech and honed troubleshooting skills--switched to HR since my family grew and wanted more stability at home. However, I'm looking forward to switching careers to IT and begin this journey. I'm approved to retire from the Air Force in September 2022, after 21 years of service to the nation. Thank you!

Richard, first, congrats - it sounds like you are taking the right approach to your transition. While very realistic of you, to pursue an entry-level position in IT, I would strongly advise that you take a holistic look at the current skillsets you have as they directly apply towards really, any field. Your HR and troubleshooting skills will directly apply in the IT space. Have you considered Cybersecurity? IT and Cyber are both very high in demand fields, Cyber being the most in demand of the two...just food for thought. I'm happy to have a follow-on conversation if you'd like.
Thanks, Richard. I have applied as you recommended.
