Advice on career path

Veteran

Samantha Sanders Bellevue, NE

I am a military spouse currently in Japan. I have 10 years of experience in food and retail management and sales, but I am wanting to shift into a remote position so my career can follow me anywhere since we plan to travel full time as a family.

I originally thought Virtual/Executive Assistant, because I have read it can have a flexible schedule. However, it still requires normal business hours in the US. I am specifically trying to find a career I can do in the middle of the night since that would be day time for me.

I am looking for suggestions on a career path I would have qualifications for remotely or I could learn on the job. I have completed 16 credit in a Business Management degree and have no plans on going back to college.

Call Centers may be an option for you. Call centers are maned 24/7 and may fit your schedule and location. Every credit card, bank or large company have them. Try the US Navy Call Center??!! Good luck..

I agree with Henry on really thinking about the questions first.

Separate through - I wanted to add that if you do do the Virtual Assistant route, not all have to work during normal business hours. Many people I know who have a side job (like selling second hand retail online, running a small business, MLM positions) use virtual assistants and usually just meet with them on a regular basis to talk through tasks for the day/week and the VA can work however they want as long as the meet deadlines. So you may want to find a few VA's that do that kind of work (clubhouse or facebook groups are good resources to find people with ideas for flexible jobs based on areas you are interested in). In this world of working from home, you also may find some employers who typically wouldn't have hired a fully remote are open to it. Project Management is a job many can do remotely, and smaller companies are less worried about hours since work happens at all hours of the day, especially on global teams. Good luck!

My sense of it is that you may have the cart before the horse. That is, how about stepping back and answer the questions, WHAT AM I GOOD AT? and WHAT ARE MY TALENTS? With the answer to those two questions in your arsenal, be about the business of targeting opportunities that are a good fit.

Here is a link to a FREE assessment tool that should help you answer these two questions. IF you would like my two cents, let me know the 4 letters and numbers associated with each in an off-chanel message to me at hlstrevcens42@gmail./com and I will share my thinking with you (also free!)
