15 minute interview

Veteran

Maranda Tasa Fargo, ND

Hello,

I have a 15 minute interview scheduled for a Finance Director position with a local non-profit. I have never been through such a short interview before. Would anyone be able to provide me any advice or insight into what I should prepare for?

Thank you,

Maranda Tasa

Hi Maranda, If this is a first interview/meeting with you, then it is likely a screening interview. There are a lot of resources out there on screening interviews and how to prepare for them. I would highly recommend LinkedIn Learning as a resource on how to prepare for this type of interview as well as the subsequent interviews you will have following the initial screening interview. Typically, the person wants to know you and what you know about the organization in order to see if you would be a good fit for the organization’s mission. Considering it’s a non-profit, it will be mission-driven and your ability to identify with their mission in the role you are interviewing for will be very important.

Maranda,
Sorry to hear about the feedback. At least you received feedback. I would spend sometime reviewing the job posting and your resume. See look where you missed out on what they wanting. It is critical to determine what the employer wants. There is a program out there called jobscan.co (co not com) it will take a resume and run it against the job posting and give you a % of keyword matches. This is what the companies are looking at, 5-years experience, Bachelors Degree required, knowledge of XYZ HR data base etc.
Thanks for your service. God Bless

Thank you everyone for your information. I did have the 15 minute interview the CEO and the Program Director. I unfortunately, did not have enough experience to make it to the second round.

They will try to sense your general personality fit with the organization -- in other words, would they like to work with you everyday? Be sure to mention how the mission of the nonprofit is something you'd be excited to support!

I agree with Jose, this is likely a screening call with the recruiter. The recruiter will check for a basic fit - salary expectations, role expectations, fit with the mission and validating your resume credentials. I wouldn’t expect too much but you should try to prepare your thoughts and responses around these high level topics. Good luck!

Maranda,

How did the interview go?

It was probably a pre-screening interview where the recruiter assesses your interest in the role and company. Learn a little bit more about your experience and probably get a sense of any salary requirements.
