I’d suggest that you network at the target company or industry. Use LinkedIn to find people already working there and reach out to them. Ask them the process they used to get hired and ask them to help you navigate the hiring process and if they are willing, ask them to submit you as a referral. These activities require much more time on your part but in my opinion would greatly increase your chances for success. Good luck!

The VA has a mandate to hire Veterans. This should not be difficult but you might have to be flexible about location.

Hi Warren,
Thanks for the great question. As I am sure you already know, the VA lists their employment through https://www.usajobs.gov/ I took a peek to see if they had any HVAC positions in Georgia for HVAC, and it didn't appear to have any listed. I would periodically check to see, as this site is always updated. In the meantime, I would love to share a great resource on tips for federal resumes https://www.careerproplus.com/blog/private-industry-vs-federal-resumes-whats-the-difference/ and also how to use your LinkedIn for federal employment http://fedcommnetwork.blogspot.com/2013/01/fix-your-linkedin-profile-7-tips-for.html
I hope this is helpful for having a federal resume and LinkedIn ready when the position appears.
Best,
Jennifer

Hi Warren,

Thanks so much for your service and thank you for your question! Since you're looking at a federal position, I would suggest looking at what usajobs.gov has to offer. You can search by location, department and job titles. Additionally, there are tools to build your own federal resume. Additional tips and sites I would recommend on the topic would be:

https://gogovernment.org/writing-your-federal-resume/

Good luck on your job search, applications, interviews and continued success!

Best,

Andrea
