Salesforce Career

Hello everyone!

I have recently discovered the Vetforce program and am set to take my Salesforce Admin exam January 4th. Does anyone have any experience in the Salesforce industry and have any suggestions on what further I can do to break into the industry?

Ash's answer is great. I think Salesforce thrives on its community.

I've chatted with Daniel about a few things, but one is certification. Getting your Admin cert is a great way to begin your journey and you can take this test for free with a voucher from Salesforce Military (AKA Vetforce).

Hey Daniel,

I actually was hired by Salesforce about 6 months ago. Would be happy to chat about the company and the industry!

I’d suggest that you network in the target industry. Use LinkedIn to find people already working in those roles or those companies and reach out to them. Ask them the process they used to get hired and ask them to help you navigate the hiring process and if they are willing, ask them to submit you as a referral. These activities require much more time on your part but in my opinion would greatly increase your chances for success. Good luck!

I have found that the user groups are also a great way to get connected with folks currently doing this kind of work and make those meaningful connections that can help lead to jobs. Also, a nice way to continue your learning once you move past the certification process.

My experience has come through the nonprofit sector for what that is worth and I have found these groups to be super helpful on many levels.

Hi Daniel,
The Salesforce Military also has job postings within the community and events.

Also Merivis supports veterans preparing for their next mission through training, mentorship and job readiness for Salesforce cloud technology careers.
https://merivis.org/

Also came across an excellent resource of companies that provide internship and training, This list was created by a fellow Vet by the name of Hannah Oh (Ringel) https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/military-transition-resources-comprehensive-list-hannah-ringel/

If you want to discuss further, send me a DM

Hi Daniel,
Salesforce Administrators (even brand new) are some of the most sought after tech resources in companies today. You have two routes outside of government work, one is to pursue corporate/non-profit organizations and the second is to go to work for an IT outsourcing company. There are pluses and minuses to both, either way you will have many opportunities to pick from using Indeed, LinkedIn and Dice.
Best of luck,

Bruce

Daniel, Veterans Affairs is a SalesForce consumer. Check contract companies. I found this link that had SalesForce openings. Most of these companies are very interested in hiring veterans.

Hi Daniel,
Thanks for the great question. Congratulations on your upcoming test. I would suggest using our community feature to reach out directly to Salesforce Advisors. Doing a quick search, I found https://acp-advisornet.org/community/sg58tw/Drew-Schildw%C3%A4chter%20 and https://acp-advisornet.org/community/j9k926/Brian-Landsman. They both work at Salesforce and should be able to answer any questions you have.
Happy Holidays,
Jennifer
