Is IBM still in the Healthcare / Healthcare IT business?

Veteran

Chip Hopkins Castle Rock, CO

I had been interested in working in the IBM Healthcare and/or Healthcare IT areas, however a friend told me that IBM had scaled back and was no longer involved or going to be pursuing those business areas? Thank you, Chip Hopkins

Hi All, Thank you very much for your responses, greatly appreciate them!

With my background, primarily in Program/Project Management in Healthcare and Healthcare IT, would there be opportunities with IBM?

Otherwise, as Chip Brown noted, I have also been pursuing Biotech/Pharma, however, without my having actual CRO experience, many positions in that realm seem to be closed to me.

In the past if I recall, IBM had been involved with the Defense Health Agency (DHA), is IBM still engaged there and/or with the VA?

Would/could there be any opportunities there or other Federal Government contracts with IBM? I would love to re-engage and continue to serve within either or both (DHA / VA) organizations. I can provide 'a' resume for anyone that might be interested.

I'm also wondering if there would be any subcontract opportunities as a SDVOSB?

Thank you very much!!!

Chip

Hi Chip - Past what IBM is doing in Health Care, with your background you may want to explore opportunities with Pharmas or CRO's.

As Courtney mentioned we are very invested in Health and Human Services. Watson Health works with providers, payers, life sciences and governments. See ibm.com/watson-health. There is also an IBM Industry division with Angelo mentions above which we are aligned to in Watson Health. I am a marketing leader in this space if I can do anything to help let me know!

Yes, IBM is still in the healthcare industry. I work within GTS and we manage Identity and Access Management (and other business units provide other service) to quite a few healthcare providers and vendors globally.

Hi Chip, IBM also provides infrastructure services to a number of healthcare companies. IBM supports healthcare and other companies with staff to cover IT requirements so our customers can focus on their primary business like healthcare. I've supported two healthcare accounts during my IBM career.

Hello Chip,
I think that this answer really depends on the IBM business line. Each area has its own focus. For example within the GBS Workday practice we do have potential clients in the healthcare industry. So your friend that told you that was likely speaking for their particular business line.

I'm not in the Healthcare area, but it seems like IBM might be shifting more toward Watson and big data services when comes to Healthcare. https://www.ibm.com/watson-health

Hi Chip!

Yes, IBM is still active in IT Healthcare. In fact, I work for the Watson Health division specializing in Government Health and Human Services (GHHS) area. I have been with IBM for 2 years in this area.

Thanks,
Cortney Jarrett

Hi Chip, Thank you for your service. Yes IBM remains very active in Healthcare. Check out https://www.ibm.com/industries/healthcare?lnk=hpmps_buin

IBM is a large company and is always growing and shrinking different business units so your friends answer might relate to just one part of IBM Healthcare. The best thing to do is network into someone within that group to discuss the latest efforts. Maybe your friend can refer you in or check out your connections on LinkedIn to get a warm intro.
