Seeking Investment Banking Mentorship

Veteran

Brandon Hughes Washington, DC

Hi everyone,

I am completing my MBA this fall with Columbia Business School and am focusing on investment banking as my career track. I am seeking any mentorship from those who have been in investment banking or made the transition.

I have applied to both the large and boutique investment banks but would love to connect with someone now to better prepare myself for the interview process and help refine my value proposition as a veteran.

Happy to share a resume and chat with anyone who you may recommend. Appreciate all the support.

Brandon

Brandon,

Id be happy to be a resource for you as you prepare for interviews. I am currently in Private Equity and can give you some insight into the types of questions you will likely get as well as some tips on where to find helpful resources for preparation. You can reach me at psmith@endurance-partners.com.

Good morning Brandon,
Great job on the MBA and your many years with the Army.

In addition to Jansen's offer above, I would encourage you to think about a few other options where you might find some valuable mentorship from the I-banking world. First, consider the Columbia MBA alums. Your school should have a database of these professionals and in all likelihood, be able to help make some introductions. I do this for my Kellogg MBA students all the time. Second, if you completed an internship in IB, you might consider someone you met during your short summer experience. Finally, I know the top MBA programs have valuable clubs (Investment Banking Club) where alums and other professionals speak and provide valuable industry guidance. Is there someone you've met during your time at Columbia -- from a the IB Club, guest speakers or even a professor who might be of help? Or who might make an intro for you to someone who can? I'm glad to chat further about this if it would be helpful, Brandon. You can reach me at mary@adviseu.net.

Good luck with completing your program!
--Mary
