Entry level associate jobs at major firms

Veteran

Kelsey Fleming Melbourne, FL

Good evening! With my background /interests in non-profit work and public service, I am reaching out to get the perspectives of anyone (within the financial services sector) who works in government/institutional/non-profit banking. It's a smaller space to find connections in but I feel I'd be a good potential sector to explore!

Kelsey, you likely are not considering staying in "the Snead," but if you are thinking about staying in the Eastern North Carolina area then I recommend talking to folks at nCino and Live Oak Bank. I am not sure how much overlap there is between their day-to-day and your specific ask, but it might be helpful. Happy to facilitate some introductions if that's interesting.

Kelsey,
HireMilitary has a great program to hook up veterans with internships that are great opportunities to study the civilian market place. Also, if you are interested in the not-for-profit arena I would do some Informational Interviewing with current folks in the fields you are interested in. Civilians love to assist military-sometimes they have no idea how to hire you, but they are very helpful in getting you information. Also build a network. As an academy grad, join up with that group, either on LinkedIn or Facebook, you have something in common a very important connection. I am sending a couple articles for you to review and a couple of LinkedIn profiles from senior military who focused their profiles on a career, even after doing multiple careers. Thanks for your service and God Bless.

Good examples of “to the point” profiles are Mark Broc, PMP, SSGB, CSM and Jack Eisenhauer, Global Supply Chain. All have had long careers, but emphasized experiences and accomplishments that offer examples of the career they are searching for.

I have run in some of those circles (gov’t, financial) in the DC area and there are more opportunities for those roles in the DC area than other parts of the country so if you want to use my connections to network in the DC area I’d be happy to help if I can. Best of luck to you.

Good Morning Kelsey,

I am a Marine for Life Representative, and I would encourage you to reach out to me on LinkedIn as I would love to help you think through this transition. I previously worked in the for-profit investment banking space so may be able to source some additional contacts for you.
