best way to start a small business in junk removal, is to drop notices in the mailboxes in your neighborhood, tell them your starting a junk removal business and if they would like a quote, also run an ad in your local paper explaining your new business. Hope that helps. If you need a professional advisor in setting up a retirement plan, 401K, IRA's, or insurance I can be a big help. Dino Patelis Edward Jones dean4614@yahoo.com

Magnun:

Suggest you also check out Nassau county’s website : www.nassaucountyny.gov . Under Business and Investor Relations there’s a section on Permits and Licenses which may give you an answer to your licensing question . I’d also suggest checking with Nassau County’s Department of Veterans Affairs and the local office of the SBA for some guidance on starting a new business . Lastly, you may want to call local home improvement contractors who frequently haul debris from home improvement projects to landfills . You can ask about licensing requirements and also if they do their own disposal or employ outside companies for their disposal tasks .

A more fundamental question you should be asking is whether there is an on-going market for junk removal services . I believe there are a number of companies that already provide these type of services . “Got Junk “ is the first that comes to mind but there are probably other smaller companies doing similar work. With construction opening up on Long Island, demand for disposal services should increase. You need to determine how exactly to enter this competitive market, what services you can provide and whether you can compete with companies that already provide these type of services . Before committing to this business you need to ask yourself how you can provide disposal services that are either cheaper , better or quicker than existing companies.

Good luck

Hello Magnun,
I did some research for you per your request regarding the trash removal industry requirements. First, let me suggest some websites for your review that I found provided some important facts about the industry. The websites are www.Waste360.com, and www.Wastebusinessjournal.com. Additional websites can be found that may answer some of your questions at Valuation Resources.com. After researching your question I found that a permit is needed to remove trash in the State of New York (The Department of Environmental…). The permit required is a valid New York State Part 364 Waste Transporter Permit. I would recommend if you are not too sure about the requirements to call some of the local companies and ask them directly what they had to do to get into the business. Some of the removal companies I found that may be a great source of industry knowledge for you are 1).Waste Management, 2). Liotta & Sons Inc., 3).Green Bay Sanitation Corp., 4). Dumpster R US, and 5). D-Best Carting. I would also suggest reading the article regarding requirements with a link provided below.
