I am looking into a career with Amazon and Republic Services which is a Waste Management company. I want to know if there is anyone that works in either compnay and what is the culture like in both.

Waste Management will continue to be an important and growing industry. It is needed everywhere all the time. It will become a global industry. Good staffing is the key to this industry. Automation and new disposal technology will continue to grow.
Today, every position is performance based, the old eternal jobs are gone. The military is also following this approach.
Waste Management is EPA controlled and pollution reduction are key to the success of this industry. There is a lot of opportunity to step up to the challenges of this necessary, but maybe not glamorous, industry.
Good Luck..

I work for Amazon Web Services and can speak to the culture inside AWS more than Amazon Fulfillment or any other part, but the company is very much the same across the major parts. Getting in is tough; so tough that the marketplace recognizes Amazonians as great catches for their ability to behave inside a corporate culture and for their expertise. There is a distinct difference in culture between Amazon and highly structured and tiered companies such as those operationally paired with our warfighters (e.g. Blackwater) so it is worth a deeper discussion, but most find it refreshing, even exhilirating. For a company of almost a million employees it still behaves like a start up at the customer facing edges where it counts. Let me know if you'd like to go deeper.

Good question! I would encourage you to look at the big picture of your career and to view this next job as a stepping stone to your longterm goals. I would interview at both and check their culture yourself. Ask questions about how many former service members are in their workforce, and could you check in with any of them to ask your culture questions. You can also connect on LinkedIn and see if outreach to veterans there already on the inside with not only give you the info you seek but may also be in a position to help you along in the hiring process. Ask and you shall receive! Good luck.

I’ve heard that Amazon has a rigorous hiring process and is a very performance and metric driven company to work for. I’ve heard they have high standards and remove low performers. Not everyone is comfortable in that kind of environment, but if you would be then Amazon can be a great place to work. Good luck!
