Do I keep my Secret Security Clearance

Veteran

Phillip Shaner Spring, TX

I had a Secret Security clearance from 2012 that was supposed to expire in 2022. I received an honorable discharge after completing my 4 years active service. I'm about to finish my inactive reserve time. Did my clearance expire upon active duty discharge? If it hasn't, do they reinvestigate to bring it up to date or does that occur in '22?
Many Thanks.

Hi Phillip,

Your security clearance is active since your investigation is good for 10 years and does not expire until 2022. However, your clearance will have to be reinstated so long as there has not been a break in service of 2 years or more since you last used your clearance.

Best,
John
