Need a career, been out since 2008

On one hand, the question is so general, it's difficult to answer. It prompts lots of questions about what kind of career are you looking for, what are your strengths, etc.?
On the other, and more important hand, it's a very typical question for someone who is searching for answers. But that also makes the questions I posed in my first response even more important: what's your "ideal" job? What are your "strengths?" What are your "most significant accomplishments" from your service, from any jobs you've held since you were separated?
There are some free assessments of strengths and personality available on the internet -- but they often don't compare well to more professional assessments that have a cost, e.g. CliftonStrengths and the MBTI. Check out some resources on my website, 212-careers.com. There are some focused resources there for veterans that I will highlight for Veterans Day. I also have a paper version of a DISC assessment that I would gladly "snail mail" to you.
You need to start somewhere and I'd say it starts with some thoughtful responses to key questions.
Anthony: I always start out by asking what your dream job looks like. Next you need to chart out what is needed to get that dream job. School, books, you tube, internet training, hanging out with people who do what you want to do, apprenticeship - there are lots of ways to get to where you want to go. But you have to first pick a direction and start moving in that direction. You may have to move. Do whatever you have to do to get where you want to be has to be the attitude. Start out at the bottom. Work your way up. It is much easier to steer a car if it is moving. Pick a direction then move.
Anthony,
Sounds like the first thing you need is some coaching by a person who will listen to your story, understand where you're at, what your goals are, thn help you implement a plan to get you there.
For this, I would strongly suggest you connect with Annie Brock at:

or
She's an expert in helping vets to do just this and her services for vets are free.
Best of Luck and let me know how this works out or if it doesn't.
Be glad to help in any way I can.
Sincerely,
Steve Adolt
