How is manufacturing different outisde of military defense and aerospace?

Veteran

Brian Reed Coloma, MI

My career experience is the military, defense contracting and aerospace. I would like to get mentored in the manufacturing world outside of military defense and aerospace. Ideally, my mentor would be from Whirlpool which is headquartered in my home town.

Hi Brian, I spent 2 years as a purchasing manager with BAE, but most of my experience is the the normal world. I can't help with Whirlpool, but happy to help if I can. As a Sourcing Manager, I have plenty of experience. Thanks

Good morning Brian,

Thank you for your service and for your question! While I'm aware that you're currently working with Andrea at ACP to find further resources, I did want to throw in some help any way I could.

While certainly far from an expert on the manufacturing industry outside of the defense/aerospace sector, I did a little digging to see if I might be able to find some useful resources on the topic.

Task and Purpose has put together an interesting article on the numerous aspects that accompany a manufacturing position in the civilian world titled "What To Expect In A Manufacturing Career As A Veteran" (https://taskandpurpose.com/manufacturing-career-veteran-skills). They've also compiled a list of Veteran-friendly manufacturers that might prove useful at https://taskandpurpose.com/great-manufacturing-companies-hiring-veterans-now.

I would also recommend utilizing ACP AdvisorNet's "Community" page to find several Advisors that are currently in the Manufacturing sector that would be able to go into even further detail.

Thank you again for your question, I hope this response proved helpful. Best of luck on your next adventure!

Sincerely,
Ian
