Does anyone know how I could get a start in the Advertising and Analytics field?

Veteran

David Hastings Boynton Beach, FL

The business I was working for sold a few months ago and I have been looking for an opportunity in Advertising and Analytics. Unfortunately I do not have an Advertising degree and I think that may be a road block for me in the hiring process. I currently do lead generation for one small business and run marketing for another but they are both very small companies with very small budgets. I’m looking to take it to the next level but I just need a chance.

David I would check out Indeed on openings similar to where you wish to head. Set salary range prior to looking. Look at enough to get a feel for Bachelor in Advertising/Marketing mandatory or Bachelor in Advertising/Marketing or similar field! Also look on LinkedIn for advertising/marketing people with titles you think would match, and look at the education. You have a lot of experience, rather that just listing what you did, or created or set up-give numbers by %- if your Facebook page increased sales in one area by 45% that is a fact. Be sure to give value for those things you have done, it does not matter the size of the company you still accomplished a lot, and whether you do for small company or a bigger company show the value in what you did! In fact you could even us bullets in your Army career about communications programs or increases in attendance programs you created promotion for. I pulled this off you LinkedIn page, which needs to reflect what I have spoke about. I have two recent articles on LinkedIn profile ideas, these could help you take good pages and really make them rock. I would also network with the companies you interface with, i.e. Facebook or some of the other outlets you use. Start with just getting to know people and then quietly get the word out you are looking for bigger opportunities. Thanks for your service and God Bless.
