Another NSN Question

Nope No Schoharie, NY

All,

I am sure that this question has been asked before, however, my search of the archives isn't quite providing exactly what I'm searching for. So, here it goes.

My company makes military navigational gear/battle tracking equipment. We own the patent and are the sole-source provider of our products. We sell to individuals and MANY active duty and NG Army and Marine Corps units (GPC purchases under the micro-purchase threshold). Folks have been asking us to get NSNs for some time now, and the information out there is murky at best it seems.

We've received advice to have our military units write a letter to the GSA Acquisition Center that covers our area and to have them also fill out DD Form 1348-6. I have several units prepared to sign anything and fill out any form, but they are not sure of who to submit this to themselves.

Please point me in the right direction, folks! Direct me to links, previous discussions that I've missed, articles of interest, or provide any insight you feel inclined to offer. All are welcome.

Thank you!

NSNs are only assigned to parts that are ordered repeatedly. Parts that are not ordered by NSN are ordered by 1348-6. If enough of one item is repeatedly ordered on successive 1348-6s, then that part will be assigned an NSN. Having an NSN won't give you any greater visibility or volume. An NSN merely provides a shorthand way of requisitioning a part. By the way, you have private messages disable so people cannot reply to your PMs.
