I'm looking to transition to a career in information security; hoping for advice and networking from established industry professionals.

Thank you both for your terrific recommendations.

Robert, I will definitely look into American Corporate Partners. It sounds like a terrific networking and advisory opportunity.

Deborah, thank you equally for recommending the local chapters of industry organizations. InfoSec IS extremely broad, and an experienced industry mentor will likely be able to help me focus my studies.

Respectfully,

Kyle Johnson

Hi Kyle!

Information Security is a broad industry area. Do you know if you know what type of role you're interested in pursuing?

If you haven't focused in on one career path over another, you may want to look into your local chapters of professional Information Security organizations. You can check to see if there is a local chapter of ISC2.org and contact them to ask if you can attend a chapter meeting or talk with their leadership. Most ISC2 chapters love to mentor and engage people who are interested in developing knowledge in this important area.

Good luck!

Hi Kyle, thank you for posing this question and for your service!

Are you at all familiar with our (American Corporate Partners) existing mentoring program? We partner with 75+ mostly Fortune 500s where mid-to-senior level executives serve as volunteer Mentors. IBM is one of our partners and IT/S is an essential department across all industries. Many career development areas including resume writing, interview skills, networking, etc. are worked on during the completely free of charge, one-on-one mentorship.

Please visit our website to submit an application:

Happy to hop on a call and discuss the program in more depth while answering any questions you may have.

Best,
Robert
