Hello! I recently established an LLC and could use some insight on the annual report/registered agent process. I understand that I will need to have a registered agent listed on my annual report every year but would like to list myself as the agent until I get further a long with my business. Are there any cons to being my own registered agent? Also, any suggestions on how to go about finding another address? I've heard that using a co-working space address may be an option. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.
I am not sure of the requirements for a Registered Agent in your state. My guess based on some quick Internet research is that you have the option of being your own agent or using an outside firm. It looks like some small businesses assume that responsibility themselves while others delegate it to a professional firm because they don’t want to be bothered with filings and other requirements. Also, individuals working and using their home as a business address prefer not to be bothered with excessive solicitations.
When I incorporated in New York State about 20 years ago I acted as my own agent . I don’t recall any negative issue relating to that decision but that was a long time ago . My suggestion is for you to network with other small businesses in your area to get their perspective. You should also join your local Chamber of Commerce and any small business professional association in your area. Other professionals will offer a wealth of information and suggestions for your business .
