Looking at the area around Seattle and Tacoma

Veteran

Phillip Batson Tacoma, WA

Good Morning/Afternoon Everyone,

Are there any of you currently in the Seattle - Tacoma area working in the Transportation, Timber, or Logging Industries?

After much debate, my girlfriend and I are looking at moving up to the Seattle - Tacoma area, as we believe it will give a better quality of life for our 1 year old son. We know that we can't move prior to the end of May due to my current school schedule, which does give time to line up employment, even if it's not what I would ideally like to do.

So, to cut to the chase, I am interested in the timber/logging/transportation industries, more towards a management and leadership, even cruising timber. And I am looking for any insight that any of you may have within this realm. Militarily, I have a background in operations planning/tracking, leadership that heavily included observing, coaching, mentoring, and training. I have experience running heavy equipment (dozers mainly, but also loaders, haul trucks, and several of the larger John Deere tractor models with implements). I also understand aspects of fuels reduction/mitigation and falling trees. And I do hugely favor the opportunity to be able to not solely be 100% inside of a building or office.

My issue arises from some previous military related injuries, which are causing me to shift my career focus and outlook on how I move forward. This lead me back to school, which will put me at a little over 30 college credits not including any military related credit.

So if anyone has any connections, experience, or advice, I am all ears, thank you for your time and for reading this.

Respectfully,
Phil Batson

Phillip, Maybe this is another place to look too. It is a jobs/recources board that my employer - Navisite - runs and manages. It has opportunities and resources across the US

Good luck and thank you for your service.

Hey Phillip!

I just wanted to draw your attention to the ACP job board! Here is one in the area you are looking in the industry you are looking for:

Also, you can find people who are locally there by using our Community Board here:

I hope this helps a little!

Hello Phillip,

I live in North Mason County (Belfair address). In 2015, Simpson Lumber in Shelton (Mason County seat) pulled out. A very large, multi-located firm (headquartered in Northern CA) has invested heavily in an updated mill in Shelton to bring back the town. Check out Sierra Pacific Industries who literally built a new sawmill in Shelton.

Here's the background story on the closure that brought in Sierra Pacific Industries:

Per their statement: "Sierra Pacific is an (EOE) Equal Opportunity Employer, including those with a disability and veterans," your interest/background could be valuable to the firm. Do check them out.

Cordially,

Thank you. Obviously I’m still learning what all the advisornet can do, going to give it a look.
