Start with the Business Planning Tool at https://www.sba.gov/tools/business-plan/1 to gather your thoughts and basic information.

Then, contact your local SBA resource partners at the VBOC, SBDC, SCORE or WBC for assistance: https://www.sba.gov/local-assistance/find/?address=92591&pageNumber=1

They offer free assistance and have the tools you need to develop your plan, including sample plans.

Finally, join the FREE online community on Alice. Alice is an ecosystem of doers, made up of many communities who challenge, support, and drive you to think bigger. Using machine learning and artificial intelligence protocols, Alice champions the risk-takers, the underdogs, and the makers who aren’t afraid to get their hands dirty.:

You need to contact your state licensing agency for early childcare to find out what kind of training/certificate you need, what kind of facilities are approved etc.
If you live in a big city, there are probably some city-specific requirements as well.
If you are doing this to get city money from a universal pre-k program, I'm sure there's a whole host of red tape you'll have to go through on top of that. I work with some daycares, but I don't know the ins and outs to give you better info.

Hi Erick,

Thanks for reaching out and for your service! I would suggest for you to check out the Community tool and speak to advisors that have opened their own small business in Illinois.

Additionally, here are some resources that might be of use for opening your own veteran small business:

1) 20 Resources for Veteran Business Owners - https://smallbiztrends.com/2015/11/resources-for-veteran-business-owners.html

2) Veteran Entrepreneur Portal - https://www.va.gov/osdbu/entrepreneur/

I hope this helps!

Best,
Molly
