Does this organization help start businesses that can help train and employ veterans ?

Veteran

Richard Knight Mountain Pine, AR

I am new to the Hot Springs, AR area, and want get a large shop set up that can train and employ multiple veterans. My area of expertise is in the woodworking field from logging trees all the way to spraying finish on fine furniture. I am also experienced in the stone countertop field. I look forward to incorporating metalworking into my furniture in the future, so a shop that can handle all aspects of wood, metal and stone should be a lucrative business that can give a variety of skills to most veterans interested in becoming a craftsman. I want to incorporate old style methods along with more efficient contemporary methods when efficiency is called for.
My lifelong dream of being a fishing guide is getting closer to reality the more familiar I become to Lake Ouachita and river system. I do not ever plan on this dream to pay for bills, but wish to be able to take veterans and lower income fishing for the fun of it. It is so much fun helping others de-stress on the water whether we catch fish or not!!!

Hi Richard and thank you for your story and question.

The answer to your question is no, we do no offer bespoke advice on starting businesses. However, I'm here to offer solutions, and am not satisfied with simply ending my answer with that. What we can do is connect you with mentors and Veteran proteges in our mentoring program (pending their approval that you contact them) with what we call Small Business Interest. These participants have either demonstrated their interest by actually starting a business (often our Veteran proteges) or have a wealth of business and marketing acumen (our industry-specific mentors).

If you'd like to be connected to someone, we can certainly try to arrange something with a participant that may be able to help!

Long story short: we make connections that can make a real difference in Veterans' lives.

Sir:

I would strongly recommend publishing your position to the transition assistance program at Fort Smith, Altus, and the Armory in Little Rock. I would consider advertising the position on wounded warrior forums.
