How does one go about preparing themselves to enter the Public Relations field?

Veteran

Quamaine Byrd Alexandria, VA

I'm looking to get into Public Relations, but don't have the work experience in the field. What certifications, internships, etc should I be looking into? Also wondering how to tailor my resume for entry-level Public Relation jobs.

Quamaine,
Public relations is a very large field, understanding the field and what you want to do will guide your process and how you present yourself.

I suggest doing some research in the field, you have been working in Communications, do you belong to any professional associations? Just reviewing their different groups and reaching out to professional can be enlightening.

If you haven't searched them on this site, consider doing so as well as on Linkedin.
Whether you are considering government or private industry, understanding your transferable skills is key to moving forward and knowing which if any certifications would benefit you most.

Good luck and thank you for your service,

Send me your military resume, I'll help you translate it. You will probably have to start entry level, PR is very competitive.
