Besides LinkedIn, are there any other professional platforms out there to network on? Also, any recommendations on people to follow on LinkedIn in order to strengthen my profile would be greatly appreciated!

There is a HUGE push for getting veterans in corporate positions right now, which you should definitely take advantage of. For example, the major companies in my area (Cisco, Net App, Lenovo, etc.) will host events with FDM (https://www.fdmgroup.com/en-us/us-veterans/) or USO that give you an opportunity to bring your resume and network with hiring managers from these companies.
I would suggest reaching out to FDM or USO (or even to the closest base - recruiters will often come to bases) to see what resources they offer and who they can connect you with.

Do you have a specific industry in mind?
In many of my workshops I heard about career groups on Facebook. Seems to be a growing number of professionals are using FB as a forum to share professional ideas. Also look into Informational Interviewing. Stay away from the looking for work, but needing assistance in transition from the military and need information. People like to help veterans, and if you ask good questions you may grow a good network and learn about your new career. Keep in mind only 0.5% serve now in the military, so people like to help, but you need to speak some civilian terms regarding the career or you will loose them in the first couple of minutes.
