Can you help me change careers at 59 years old?

Veteran

Thomas Gavlick Orlando, FL

I am a veteran of the US Air Force. I was a Titan II Missile Facilities Technician Instructor.
I have a BS degree in Industrial Engineering Technology (graduated in 2008).
I have many years of experience in General Business Management, Purchasing and Supply Chain Management. I have held positions as a Purchasing Manager, Manufacturers Representative, Business Owner, Construction Manager, Production Supervisor, and am currently a UXO Technician level two.
I am looking to move to the Huntsville or Nashville area in the hopes of getting back into procurement or into project management.

Thanks,
Tom Gavlick

Hi Thomas,
I'd be happy to talk to you about exploring business ownership as an option. You might not have considered it yet, or perhaps not more than a vague concept. It can be a great way to change careers since you are able to take control of your career as opposed to waiting for someone else to allow you to move in the direction that you want. It sounds as if you have highly transferable skills for a business owner. If interested, feel free to book a time on my calendar at nquartey.youcanbook.me.
Best,
Nancy

In reviewing your LinkedIn profile, if you want to move back into purchasing and or supply chain, then list that as your career choice in your TAG line. The first 2 things recruiters look at are 1) your TAG line, line right under your picture 2) you might want take the outdoors out of your picture and get a professional head shot or at least a neutral back ground with a button down shirt.
In your summary then push accomplishments in the supply chain or purchasing field. Keep in mind the search engines find you with keywords and then a set of eyes take a quick look to see enough purchasing experience to request your resume(needs to be tailored to the requested position or at least a purchasing position). If you read all the was down on my profile, I spend 30 years in the GPO industry-no one ever reaches out to me for that-I receive at least 10-15 connection request a week for the transition process, I am not actively looking for work.
How ever you wish to weave in your vast experience, just be sure to keep purchasing keywords up at the top and very easy to find. Thank you for your service and here is an article on the LI profile. Keep in mind 90% of recruiters use LinkedIn. God Bless sir. https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/linkedin-profile-your-chance-discovered-transitioning-jerry-welsh/
