Job search in the DFW area

Veteran

Luis Trevino Lexington Park, MD

I will be retiring next summer after 25 years as a Naval Supply Corps Officer. I will be available for civilian employment June/July 2019. I have experience as a contracting officer in major weapon systems but I also have experience in logistics and program management. I plan on moving back to the Dallas - Fort Worth Area. How would you suggest I focus my job search and when should I begin? Can you point me in the right direction?

Captain Trevino,

Do you have a specific industry you are targeting? I can tell you that Raytheon has a sizable presence there in the Dallas area and it sounds like your skills could match some of the types of jobs that Raytheon has to offer. Having just done a quick search, there are multiple contracts positions open in McKinney, TX.

Regards,
Derek

Hello Captain Trevino, I transitioned from the Marine Corps in June 2002 after 22 years and started my search in February of that year. Seemed to be about right as it allowed me to refine my resume and get some interviews under the belt before racking and stacking job offers. Most companies are looking to staff quickly unless it's a position dependent upon an award. Your skill sets could easily place you in Contracting Officer, Supply Chain Manager, or Program Management. Please check out the Raytheon job site. We have a number of facilities in the DFW area. Other job sites to work with at MOAA, MEA(Marine Executive Association) and MCA&F. These provide resume review as well. I can also recommend militaryhire.com, clearedjobs.net or clearancejobs.com

Luis,
I would target resume submittal around March/April time frame. As mentioned, Raytheon does have quite a few divisions in the Dallas Fort Worth area (Lemmon, Richardson, & McKinney), but I would suggest applying for Tucson or other locations. Reason for this is that we have many program managers working remotely (telecommute) as it is becoming more a norm than an exception. Good luck!

Mr. Nielsen,

What site did you do your Raytheon job search? Is it possible to simply go directly to Raytheon's company website? Is it possible to post your resume directly to the site? Please forgive my ignorance I'm just new to this.

As you can imagine I'm a bit anxious about my transition but I'm excited also.Thank you for answering my question. I really appreciate it.
