Michael,
Do check into militaryhire.com for local opportunities. Also, on the clearance end, you may want to suggest to an employer that they hire you as a part-time employee with little to no hours so they can submit you for an SSBI to get the clearance. May take 18 months but that can get you in the pipeline to use your skills and degrees there and elsewhere. They might also be able to get you an interim TS that way in a few months that can get you started.

Good Morning Jeremy,
Your leadership and management skills should help get you into management type positions. You may want to pursue a PMP certification too as that is required in many positions these days. George Mason has a good online prep course that's not very expensive. You mentioned Crisis Management, so time in a command center? Clearance? These are marketable skills to certain companies supporting defense with on-site contractor support. I myself was artillery/comm with a LA degree. My time in the NMCC got me into engineering management in a niche area supporting Critical Infrastructure Protection, Mission Assurance and later National Leadership Communications. Work with mentors and service related websites to refine your resume. You have much to offer. Please check out Raytheon's jobs at https://jobs.raytheon.com/

Good morning, everyone, and I'm pleased to be a part of this gathering. I've been recruiting since the mid-1990's, and since 2015 in the aerospace/defense industry. I am currently with Raytheon here in warm, sunny southern California, but have recruited nationally and internationally, and will do my best to be of help to our veterans and transitioning military.

Hi David,

In terms of ageism, yes that is a word, think of yourself as a veteran worker. You know how to show up every day, you know how to act is a corporate setting, you have valuable knowledge that others do not. Your experience brings a value that is appreciated. Good luck!

Good morning everyone,

With over 30-years experience as a Mechanical Design Engineer, I have worked for nearly all the major aerospace firms and have molded programs as varied as the space shuttle, Milstar, and now the Air Force's next gen OPIR program.

I have held positions as a hiring manager, Program Manager, deputy Director and am now the new business capture manager for space systems.

I am pleased to advise with any questions relating to re-entering the workforce, how to be recognized for your performance or strategies about keeping your options open with work assignments.

Good Morning Raytheon Volunteers,

First of all, thank you for taking the time to answer questions today, your insight is very helpful. I have a very specific question based on geographic and security clearance constraints. I served as an Infantry officer for 5 years, but finished as my battalion's logistics officer, and then got out and attended graduate school. I graduated from Georgetown this spring with an international affairs MS focused on national security and illicit finance.

However, my wife is active duty and stationed at Ft Bragg, so since graduating from Georgetown I have been working from home for a consulting firm that advises on illicit finance. This has been nice, but I cannot work from home forever so I've been looking for opportunities in the area. Unfortunately, my security clearance has expired, and I only ever held a Secret Clearance while it was active. Do any of you have any experience or advice on how to break into contracting in an area like Ft Bragg where a majority of the positions require an active TS/SCI clearance but you do not have an active clearance?

Thank you,
Michael

Good morning all,

I recently transitioned from the Army after 8 years as an Engineer officer. I was recruited by Raytheon from the Colorado Springs area. I have some fresh insight into the transition process from a Junior Military Officer standpoint, though I'm sure the experience is applicable to all.

Good morning Derek and all other Advisors, please chime in on my answers. I know I don't have the corner on wisdom.

Veterans, Keep those questions coming. Let's have a dialogue.

David,
Let me first say that Raytheon doesn't age discriminate. That said, I understand your concern as I have friends who've faced the challenge of finding a position. I would recommend you do a couple of things. First, your resume should reflect only 15-20 years of work history or simply focus on skills/capabilities. Second, when you get an interview, be up front about your work/life plans (eg I plan to continue to work for the next 10 yrs). Be energetic and excited about opportunities. Your only as old as you feel!
S/F Dan (over 60).

Charles,
I would suggest you look for manager/supervisor jobs in logistics, field engineering or even warehousing. Leveraging your over 2 decades of leadership experience, you shouldn't need to go into entry level.

Hi Everyone - Retired in 2009 after 20 years as an Army Officer - looking to leverage my skills in strategic planning, training and development, and leadership development in a corporate setting.
Concerned about age discrimination - how does someone over 50 market themselves and their experience without opening the door to age discrimination in the job search process?

OK well Good morning everyone, my name is Charles Moore I am retired Army (26yrs) and was a Maintenance Supervisor. I had an opportunity to work in the battalion operations and learned a lot about the logistics and planning in my units. What jobs should I be looking for when applying for jobs? Management, entry level, maintenance?

I am a Raytheon PM in IIS. I transitioned in 2002 and help veterans from all services through MOAA, MEA and MCAF.
