John, I would recommend joining a social blog for the field you intend to enter. There are several groups on LinkedIn where you may be able to do this. Be active and provide feedback within those groups. You will both learn and gain insight from those in the field currently and be able to show how your diverse skill-set can be an advantage. Additionally if there are any volunteer opportunities with companies of interest; I would certainly consider those as well. In addition to giving back you often get to meet key company players at volunteer events.

Hi John,

Thank you for your service and for utilizing ACP AdvisorNet! Scientific R&D is a pretty exciting field right now, that seems like a good choice for you.

I found a link that I think might help you develop a resume for transferring fields: https://zety.com/blog/career-change-resume

This link might also help, as it highlights identifying boutique consulting firms: https://www.sciencemag.org/careers/2014/09/science-careers-guide-consulting-careers-phd-scientists

I hope that was helpful!

Andy
