I have more than 10 years of military experience in equipment maintenance production management, logistics planning, inventory management (demand analysis and forecasting), transportation, and distribution. However, the Army has it's own lexicon and the division of labor and processes is different. I am working to learn the language, as well as to fill knowledge gaps. Knowing where I should focus my attention and being able to assess my strengths and weaknesses in the areas that are most critical will be helpful.

I have a Master's in Supply Chain Management and work in procurement, here are my 2 cents:
I would argue the most important thing affecting the supply chain world is data analysis.
Every company has their own enterprise resource planning system you will have to learn; however, the company cannot teach you how to analyze data to make better supply chain decisions.
My advice would be to get some working knowledge on data analytics if you are considering going back to school/getting certifications, etc..

Let me start off by saying I am not a loggy. However, one of the hot topics in supply chain management is supply chain risk management. This is a requirement in just about any program with an IT component and much of the hardware built for various customers. The concern from my perspective as a cybersecurity guy is avoiding counterfeit hardware and the detection of potentially counterfeit hardware. Only way to do that is by practicing supply chain risk management.

When I had to learn about assisting you transition, from being a CEO of a GPO-I set up a Google news account. Under your Google account are the Google apps , maps etc. One is news, open news and under saved searches create searches based upon your supply chain topics. Then everyday go and refresh, this brings in any new articles on your subjects. I went from a rookie on resumes, LinkedIn, career searches, etc. to an up to date source matter expert. This will keep you current and up to date on your career field. You have the best way to get attention, know the buzz or keywords of your industry. Thanks for your service, God Bless.
