I was wondering if anyone in the community could help me with starting my own local home care agency, I want to help people recover after hospitalization and prevent readmissions .

One of our biggest problems in the healthcare field is people being readmitted shortly after discharge. The reasons for this are varied but the majority are due to socio-economic factors such as lack of help with their activities of daily living. I want to start an agency that will assist people with home care, housekeeping, sitter services, grocery deliveries and transportation to the pharmacy, the store, etc.

Hello Armando, you have a great idea and need to get startup resources like any other business. I'm in California and I know many home healthcare providers here. You need to find out the rules in your local area about the various care thresholds that determine what laws are applicable to what you want to do. If you provide"hands on care" vs a "non-health care" service just like you mentioned transportation or consultancy or delivery service etc. One will require more license and liability insurance etc. Check with your local SBA for accurate information.

Hope this helps!

As a retired lawyer/consultant , let me suggest that you take care of the legal issues; potential liabilities and risk exposures at the very early stage of your "start up" company.

There are many resources for former military people that could help you. Contact the local Law Schools and the local Bar Associations for their "Pro Bono" (free) services.

Good luck.
