Struggling to become a home inspector

Veteran

Mohammed Reda Elhammani Alpharetta, GA

I need help and advice on becoming a good home inspector. I took classes in a school for a week to get certified, but I feel that it wasn't helping that much since it did not cover the majority of what I can see in the field which lowered my confidence level, more over and I struggled on finding mentors since there is no one willing to help a newbie as well as I'm struggling to find a home inspectors community in Atlanta Ga... so I'm stocked in middle off the road trying to get it started .... can any one please advises me what to do in order to move forward of my dilemma.

Hi Mohammed,
Have you considered investing in a home inspector franchise? Franchises offer a successful and repeatable system with training and support to help you succeed. I would be happy to discuss it with you if you are interested.

Good morning and thank you for your service! My only experience with home inspections is as one who has bought a lot of homes over the years. My impression is that inspectors tend to be connected with realtors. Realtors who are selling the property want a good thorough inspector who can finish the job and have the report often on the spot. Inspectors I have used have special software and a portable printer. They print off their findings and put them in a 1" binder right then and there. If you learn what to do, get the appropriate tools to actually do the job, then I think it is a matter of advertising, visiting local realtors, network among vets. Maybe also go visit mortgage companies who do VA/FHA loans. I imagine that's a separate certification. You might even have some friends who would let you "practice" on their home.

Good afternoon Mohammed,

I don't know about the home inspection market but are you now a certified and registered with the state home inspector? If not, you may need to look into the requirements that Georgia requires. If so, then you need to have a business plan on how you intend to make this work for you. Call me at 202-619-0482 or e-mail me at Lloyd.calderon@sba.gov so we can discuss further.

Sincerely,

Lloyd
