As a recruiter in the financial industry, I would be happy to share with you the 'assessment' survey we use with potential candidates for the Financial Advisor -role. It takes approximately 5 minutes to complete and the results reflects the following traits:
AUTONOMY --measures intrinsic motivation which is important when one starts out building your 'book of business' (which btw. belongs to the institution you work for in the case with banking). This does not necessarily apply in the insurance industry. For example with our firm, the FA 'owns' the relationship hence, they 'own' the business generated from the relationship. This certainly makes a difference when deciding if 'banking' is the way to go.
SOCIAL: Essentially this... "Do you like working/helping with people"
CONFORMITY: Are you better at 'seeing' the broader perspective of 'team work' without your natural 'competitive' nature getting in the way of growth
PATIENCE: Relationships take time to be established, hence the 'sales cycle' is longer. If one is driven by immediate results in finance, this may translate into many frustrating 'work days'.
LOGIC and INGENUITY: 1+1=2. If you have always been drawn to 'spreadsheets and graphs', then this career path, more than likely, will be a good 'fit' for you.
Feel free to reach out directly for more information. I would be happy to help where I can.
Good luck.

Some points from the article that caught my attention:

1. Be sure to pursue a career path that fits your personality.
2. How to succeed in wealth management- genuine empathy and great communication skills
3. A strong understanding of varying portfolios not just one market. But how does one create in focus?
4. The CFA is a good credential. I will need to start researching.

Kate thank you very much for sharing the article. I will check out the Community Page and reach out to the honorable mentors.
