Paula,
How is your resume rewrite going? More importantly, how is your job search going?
I am a retired AF Colonel and presently teach nursing at UTA. I would be happy to review your resume and cover letter if you think you still need additional help. morr@uta.edu

Still Standing Veterans tweeked mine, and it's paid off. I wasn't getting any calls, and then they revamped it, guided me, and now having multiple interviews a week (tedious process due to the level I'm seeking).

Best advise I ever received in 6 months of applying... Print the job description, find the action verbs, and pronouns/nouns, and add them to your resume. Delete what isn't important for the specific job, and add what is.

My objective has how many years in doing what, very general. And then closes with what I want to do. Two fold: I put buzz words in the objective to get past the computer system, and then desire to show forward movement once in front of eyes.

Don't put a company name in your objective, leave it generic. Prevents accidental copy paste into another resume for another company, and failure to modify, removes a step on your side. "Work for Mayo" when you are applying to Johns Hopkins. Not good. "Your organization" works.

If you have a job description for your military positions, change them into bullets, and delete the paragraph. It cleans up the resume. Each sentence is probably a bullet of sort: responsible for... Now, is that bullet "responsible for" part of the job description, if not than delete it.

Or take the bullet, and put it in a master resume so you can find it later. You can separate bullets on a master my finance, computer/IT, HR/Leadership, specialty offices, whatnot.

You probably only need 2 or 3 resumes to tweek after you've refined them.

Your mentor on here should be able to assist in all for you, mine helped in writing a cover, and then SSV helped improve it.

Veterati.com, find a person for networking. Networking is still huge. See if the hospital or clinic has a senior ranking member, who is a vet, and make them a local mentor. Not seeking a job, but seeking guidance; networking takes time and effort.

Hope it helps.

Hi Paula, Thank you for your service as RN. While you already have great offers to work on your resume, I would suggest using https://resumegenius.com/ or similar sites too. These sites are built to include required key words which will help with your resume to be picked up by resume scanning software.

I can send you a step-by-step process to transform your current resume into a Winning Resume for free. I recently sent this process to a lawyer on a Monday. He rewrote his resume on Tuesday and submitted it with a job application. Received a phone call Wednesday to set up an interview. Interviewed that Friday and received a job offer. Starts new job in 2 weeks. The process works when you follow the process exactly.

Paula, did you know that as veteran the company that employees you is entitled to a tax credit up to $9,600. Most employers don't this either. I can show you want to add to your resume that will point this out plus how the employer can take advantage of the credit. Just send me an email to ramco1@verizon.net if you want to learn how. Anyone else reading this feel free to contact me for some guidance.
Warmly,
Bob

Looks like you are getting some competent offers to have your resume reviewed. Good for you (and them)! I'll just add my theme to the mix . . . . . after decades of being in healthcare human resources, I have learned that which is most valuable is the talent someone brings to the opportunity and not the experience. That is, You can always learn the skills if you have the talent - something about not being able to teach a pig to sing. Thus, define your talents and sell those in your resume. As an aside, IF you have an interest in working in SE Florida, let me know - I have hospital contacts there. HLSTEVENS42@GMAIL.COM

It's a site run by my company (Johnson & Johnson) that provides lots of different resources for nursing students and new nurses. If you scroll to the bottom of the homepage, you can see links to those.

Good luck!
