Jose, thank you for your service to our country. We welcome you to Houston upon your transition to civilian life. My wife and I reside near the center of Houston on Montrose. I have had experience in watching the job market for the past year. Most job openings are listed the company or an outside personnel company. You may access the job on line by sending them a resume by email and answering questions on the email. The company then goes through the prospects it receives by email and selects the applicants it wants to interview in person. The type of job you are seeking may have a different procedure but most are according to what l mentioned first. It seems very impersonal but perhaps it takes less of your time and theirs. Go to www.indeed.com and set up an account. There are others but this one is a good start.
Start browsing jobs in the locations you want to live then apply the various filters, such as salary, job level, education, etc. to develop a short list of interesting jobs.
Create a crackerjack resume (get help) and use this resume to apply online for jobs.
To improve your chances for interviews you may need to create derivative resumes to tailor your skills to the specific job.
Some companies use resume scanning software to rate your resume against the words in the specific job description. To improve your rating it's sometimes worthwhile to use as many words in the specific job description.

The next time you’re in Houston, stop in the local US Labor Employment Office and register with them. Make an appointment with their Veterans assistance representatives to review your resume and take a look at opportunitis that interest you. As a Veteran you’ll get priority service at the center and should get notified of new opportunities as they are posted. https://www.dol.gov/veterans/findajob/
That would be a good resource when looking for employment.
Contact http://cmawarrior.org/ and let them know you are trying to get plugged in post-transition in Houston. This organization is run by a family of veterans and milspouses who get how hard it is to grow your network from afar.
