I have been out for two years now and would like to move into the San Antonio area. I have Network and Security plus certifications,, but have struggled to land something in the San Antonio area, does anybody have any contacts that can get me where I want to go with an information security direction in mind?

I was both enlisted and officer, I know both the technical side and the management side. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I am late on this post but reach out to the San Antonio USO. If you add me on Linkedin (Ted Holmes), I can connect you with some individuals in the area. They call San Antonio military city because of the love of veterans. I attended a few events and I had quite a few offers (ITIL, Sec+, Clearance) based on my certs and elevator speech. I was too far out to accept any, but there is a lot of opportunity in that area. Please add a note in the LinkedIn invitation referencing this.

HEB might be another big employer in the area.

Do you have a LinkedIn profile? This is a great place to be seen and you can contact companies who have openings. You can also look for people to network with. Indeed is a great site for IT skilled workers. The website is: https://www.indeed.com/. Posting your resume is a good and you can set yourself to get an email everyday of all the combined websites that they review everyday. Trying different job categories and skills is a good idea so you can get a range of jobs that employers have.

Your resume should have as much detail of your IT skills as possible. Resumes should be tailored to the job that you are applying for. Highlight that you are Vet. Many employers give preferential treatment to Vets. I never got a job because of a cover letter, but when it is required, just create a short one. If not required, I won't submit one.

Shane, Here at Verizon we have a military recruiting team that may be able to provide some feedback. You can reach them through this site;

USAA is a good employer there. They recruit directly, apply on their website.

You need more than just the two certs you mentioned.
