Deloitte Impact Day: Is there a recommended resource to learn more about Deloitte's staffing procedures or can anyone weigh in on their experiences?

I am a few years separated and starting an MBA at a Deloitte target school this fall. Despite research and speaking with friends and contacts, I don't have the clearest picture of day to day when not assigned to a client or how being assigned/choosing an assignment works.

Hi Andrew,

As a Professional Services firm, client service drives our business and is therefore a main focus of day-to-day life. As employees' careers progress within Deloitte, more time is spent on expanding business, finding new opportunities, etc. but the basis of all work is client service. That being said, day-to-day when not assigned to a client would mainly consist of helping on internal or proposal efforts and networking to identify potential project opportunities. At Deloitte, specifically, our Talent team helps match professionals looking for a project, either because they are not currently staffed on a client or they are looking to change, but a lot of the process can also be self-driven. Deloitte offers the ability to network and find opportunities for different clients without being "assigned." This comes with its own limitations, such as committing to a client for a certain amount of time and ensuring appropriate replacements throughout the transition of people between projects. Generally, when offered a position at Deloitte, you will be hired to a specific engagement within an area that fits with your skills and experience, and that will be the starting point. Then, as you continue your career at Deloitte, you can network and seek project opportunities that fit your skill sets and interests. Thank you for your service and please let me know if you would like to discuss in more detail.

Maggie

Hi Andrew - Professionals can participate in internal work/projects. For example, at Deloitte, our practitioners can serve as a facilitator for Deloitte University training sessions. While that is just one example, there are many veteran and non-veteran related programs that practitioners get involved in, aside from client/project work.

Hi Andrew!
We have a team of resources in our talent area who help make sure that our client service professionals are assigned on projects. There are also a number of different activities which fill up most of the down time available which include online training or training at Deloitte University, assisting with sales efforts identified through networking with individuals, and various internal projects which are frequently needing assistance. You also will have a coach, a peer assigned to help you initially with questions and such, typically a PPD champion as well depending on the practice to which you are assigned, and those who you meet with each project as part of your network. Hopefully that helps.
Julia
